ABOUT CAPTAIN CHAPPY

LOCAL LEGEND

Meet Captain Chappy, Your Charleston Fishing Guide

My name is Christopher Chappell, but everyone calls me Chappy. I grew up in the historic district of Charleston, where the harbor and the creeks were my backyard. Summer days were spent dragging a seine net for shrimp while the dads watched us do the work, and at night we gigged flounder from a jon boat. If you couldn’t find me fishing or covered in pluff mud, I was probably hopping the rail along the Battery to hitch a ride out on somebody’s boat. I have been fishing this water my whole life.

From the Tournament Trail to Guiding

Before I started guiding, I fished the pro redfish circuit, the Lowcountry Redfish Cup, the Southern Redfish Cup, the IFA Redfish Series, and the Redfish World Series. Tournament fishing teaches you to find fish on a schedule, in conditions you would never choose, with money on the line. That is the skill I bring to your trip. I am not hoping we run into fish. I am working a plan around the tide and the wind, and changing it the minute the water tells me to.

Off the Water

These days I am a family man. I have been happily married to my wife Jessica for 13 years, and along for the ride are the coolest kid around, my son Tradd, and our Boykin Spaniel, Miss Dixie. When you book with Capt. Chappy, you are fishing with someone who is going to be running the same water ways for a long time, and who wants you coming back.
