When you live close to the ocean like I have most of my life, you get used to terms like “nearshore”, “offshore”, “big game”, “deep sea”, and “inshore”, and just assume that everyone knows the difference. Fishing might seem like a pretty simple concept: you throw out a reel, you hopefully catch a fish, and you eat the fish (or throw it back). But every time that I hop on my boat and either take off for some solitary fishing or set out on one of our inshore fishing charters in Charleston, SC, it is an entirely new fishing experience. Yes, the fun is always in the thrill of the hunt, but different types of fishing require different skills, strategies, and excitement. Inshore fishing is probably one of my favorites for many reasons, but especially for these!
You Only Need an Hour or Two to Escape
Inshore fishing is one of my favorites because if I have an hour or two to escape, I can get lost mentally without having to do much but make it a couple of miles off-shore. And I can still see the outline of our beautiful Holy City, which is by far one of my favorite places on Earth. The only parameters that you have to clear to get far enough out to “lose yourself” is getting away from the hustle and bustle of beachcombers, rocky shorelines, and piers. It isn’t a far way to go for me to find paradise!
No Preparation is Necessary!
Another reason that I love inshore fishing charters is that staying inshore requires far less tackle and other accessories. Inshore fishing is more like getting back to my fishing roots as a kid. You don’t need any fancy or expensive bait; all you need is a cast and simple live bait – or even dead. It requires little to no preparation, which means I can decide to head out at a moment’s notice. And I am doing my favorite thing without any packing or being ready for a long day’s trip, even if I do decide to spend the day!
Getting Down to Basics
Don’t get me wrong – there is nothing I love more than finding a new fishing gadget to help me find the really big game, but there is something so serene about not having anything but my talent against the wild fish. With inshore fishing, you don’t need assistance, a graph for locating the best school of fish, or a GPS. It is literally fishing the old-fashioned way – which might sound less exciting, but it isn’t. It is just man versus nature and it brings out the primal instinct in me…
Year-Round Rain or Shine!
Unlike other fishing charters that can only be taken during certain times of the year, inshore fishing can be done from January to January. We are lucky to enjoy the nice weather in Charleston, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t times when getting out on the rough waters isn’t recommended. Inshore fishing can be done regardless of the weather conditions or season. Therefore, if you want to make a plan to go on a fishing charter, booking an inshore one will make it more likely that we can make it out rain or shine.
Smaller Species Catch
It is really great to catch the whoppers, but the smaller fish are super tasty and are a delicacy that is worth it. Inshore fishing targets Spanish Mackerel, Black Sea Bass, Tarpon, and Speckled Trout. Also, you get to catch large quantities. That makes inshore fishing great for families, especially kids. Sometimes kids don’t really enjoy being patient to get the “one big catch”. It is so much fun to see them pull in one smaller fish after another. Setting out on inshore fishing charters in Charleston, SC with families is by far my biggest treat!
Fishing charters might seem all the same to those who aren’t avid boaters or fishers. When it comes to fishing charters, if I have a few hours to get lost, you will always find me inshore fishing. It is one of the best things in life. Let me show your family the wonders of staying close to shore and the excitement of catching fish after fish.
