Summer fishing is officially underway in Charleston, and June has delivered some outstanding days on the water. With warmer water temperatures and stable weather patterns, our inshore fishery is producing consistent action across the harbor, creeks, flats, and surrounding estuaries.
Redfish continue to be the star of the show. We’ve been finding healthy schools along grass lines, oyster bars, and shallow flats during moving tides. Many trips have produced steady action with fish aggressively feeding throughout the morning, making for exciting sight-fishing opportunities and plenty of bent rods. Speckled trout have also been providing solid action, especially during the early morning hours around deeper creek mouths and current breaks.
Black drum and flounder have rounded out the mixed bag on many trips, keeping anglers busy and adding variety throughout the day. The bait has been plentiful, and the fish are taking full advantage of the summer feeding patterns. Whether fishing live bait or artificial lures, anglers have enjoyed consistent opportunities at quality fish.
Looking ahead, July should bring even more exciting fishing as bait concentrations increase throughout the harbor and backwater creeks. Early mornings and moving water will continue to be key, and we expect the redfish bite to remain strong throughout the summer.
If you’ve been thinking about getting on the water, now is a great time to book a trip. Whether you’re an experienced angler or introducing someone to fishing for the first time, Charleston’s summer fishery is providing plenty of action and unforgettable memories.
